In Mongolia, the 1st article of the Charter of the Institute of Scripture, approved by the 24th Government Meeting in 1921, included: Regarding the establishment of a museum, the work of collecting exhibits was carried out, and the foundation of the modern museum was laid.

In order for the government to protect and collect historical and cultural heritage in the aimags and to enlighten the people, the decision was made to establish a local study cabinet in Khovd aimag by order No. 110 of the Minister of Enlightenment of the Mongolian People's Republic dated April 8, 1949.

The Khovd aimag Museum was first established in 1950 under the name of “Local Propagation Cabinet” with 2 position and more than 300 exhibits. In 1967, the “Provincial Museum of Local History”, in 1991, the “Provincial Museum”, and by the resolution of the Khovd aimag’s People’s Representatives’ Meeting dated August 2, 2024, the “GALDAN BOSGHOT KHANY NEREMJIT” expanded to the Khovd aimag Museum, promoting artifacts that show the history, culture and customs of the people of Western Mongolia to the public.

Our organization has more than 3,100 exhibits and is visited by about 7,000-9,000 visitors annually. The provincial museum, based on its treasury, organizes exhibits and artifacts in 9 halls according to the categories of “Ancient History, Pride, Fine Arts, Ethnicity, President, Religion, Fame, and Nature and Geography” and continues its activities stably.
