D. Otgonnyam, a herdsman from Tsagaan Gol village in Buyant sum, became the “DUAL CHAMPION HERDER OF MONGOLIA” In the passing year of the wooden dragon called “Khilent Ekh”, more than 8,500 herdsman households in Khovd aimag counted 3.5 million heads of livestock. Leading the herdsman community, one “Double Champion Herder of Mongolia” and nine “National Champion Herders” were recognized from Khovd aimag. D. Otgonnyam, a herdsman from the Tsagaan Gol group in Buyant soum, and his wife J. Tsetseghand, who received the title of “Double Champion Herder of Mongolia,” were presented with the prestigious award by Member of Parliament and Minister of Defense S. Byambatsogt and Deputy Minister of Social Policy L. Enkhbayar today (2025.2.23). He has improved his success as a State Good Herder in 2015 and has become a “Double Champion Herder of Mongolia” after 10 years. He raises his livestock in five types, and he mainly raises cattle, including horses, according to the characteristics of his region. Having inherited the wishes and goals of his gray father, who did not break the herd of horses and passed them on to his descendants, and driven by his own interests, he had about 40 horses, improved the breed of his horses, and now has 17 stallions. He has been working in the livestock industry for more than 30 years, and was awarded the titles of “Best Herder of Sumy” in 2005, “Best Herder of the Province” in 2007, “Best Herder of Mongolia” in 2015, and “Best Herder of the State” in 2015. A two-time national champion herder, D. Otgonnyam aims to help many young people who are friendly to animals by sharing his experience in herding livestock. He currently has 2 assistant herders. One of them became the provincial champion herder in 2022.
