During the official visit of Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai to the United States in August 2023, the two countries signed essential documents, including the “Economic Cooperation Roadmap for the Strategic Third Neighbor Partnership between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the United States of America” and the “Air Transport Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the United States of America.”

In the framework of the Air Transport Agreement, United Airlines expanded its Houston-Tokyo flights to add new direct flights from Tokyo-Narita to Ulaanbaatar from May 1, 2025, marking another tangible outcome of the visit of the Mongolian Prime Minister to the United States.

At a time when Mongolia-U.S. relations have reached the level of a Strategic Third Neighbor Partnership, and cooperation is enriching in all areas, the Houston-Tokyo-Ulaanbaatar flight will be significant in contributing to expanding cooperation in many areas, including trade, economy, transport, and tourism, not only between Mongolia and the United States, but also between Mongolia and Japan.

Mongolia’s national flag carrier is working towards launching nonstop passenger flights to the United States, with the relevant agencies of both sides continuing to make the necessary arrangements.
