On August 6, 2025, in Awaza, Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Uchral Nyam-Osor, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development, participated in the first session of the Ministerial Meeting on South-South Cooperation held under the theme “Catalyzing South-South and triangular cooperation in science, technology and innovation to spur structural economic transformation and achieve digital leapfrogging in LLDCs”. 

The session featured the participation of Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Ms. Ana Xavier, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic, and Mr. Nthati Moorosi, Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation of the Kingdom of Lesotho. During the discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Uchral Nyam-Osor introduced Mongolia’s national program “Digital Nation” and shared the country’s policies and best practices in the development of science, technology, and innovation. 

In his remarks, he emphasized that nearly 70 percent of Mongolia’s population under the age of 40, the country possesses a significant human resource advantage for implementing structural reforms through digital transformation. He highlighted that the Government of Mongolia has initiated and enacted legislation to support start-up businesses in the information technology sector, establishing a policy framework that provides financial assistance and research and development funding. These measures have helped boost both domestic and foreign investment in the sector. 

Mongolia’s active engagement in international efforts to expand South-South and triangular cooperation has had a positive impact in creating joint projects and programs with other countries through technical assistance, capacity-building, and knowledge exchange.
