At the invitation of the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, His Majesty the 126th  Emperor Naruhito and Her Majesty the Empress Masako of Japan will pay  a State visit to Mongolia in early July, 2025.

 

This marks the first-ever State visit by Their Majesties to Mongolia, a milestone of profound historical significance. The visit holds a historical significance in underscoring the deepening of the “Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity” between Mongolia and Japan. It also highlights the shared values of democracy and the commitment to strengthening “people-centered” relations and cooperation between the two nations.

 

President U.Khurelsukh previously attended the "Enthronement Ceremony of the Emperor of Japan" in 2019, during His tenure as the Prime Minister of Mongolia. In 2022, on the occasion of His State visit to Japan commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan, Their Excellencies President U.Khurelsukh and First Lady L. Bolortsetseg had an audience with Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

During the 2022 visit, the President and First Lady of Mongolia, together with Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, attended a Morin Khuur Ensemble performance at NHK Hall, further solidifying their warm and trusted relationship. 

 

The historic visit of the President of Mongolia, U.Khurelsukh embarked Mongolia and Japan’s relations elevated to new heights of the "Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity" and agreed to actively cooperate in four key areas as Politics and Security, Economy, Trade, and Investment, “People-Centered” Development and Cultural Exchange and Cooperation on Global Issues

 

This visit laid the foundation for the next 50 years of Mongolia-Japan relations, reinforcing their enduring friendship and shared legacies of statehood.

 

His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito of Japan ascended to the Chrysanthemum Throne on May 1, 2019, marking the beginning of Japan’s "Reiwa" era. Since His enthronement, Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan have undertaken two overseas visits.
