The National Film Council has organized a meeting with the leaders from a fair few associations of the “United Association of the Disabled of Mongolia” on January of this year, for the purpose of ensuring the implementation of the ‘Law on Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, strengthening the cooperation with non-governmental organizations, and increasing equality and accessibility in the film industry.

The meeting was attended by Enkhnaran.A, Head of the Administration and Finance Department of the National Film Council, Tserenpagma.G, Special Fund Inquiry, Information and Research Officer, Enkhbaatar.A, President of the “Mongolian National Federation of the Deaf”, Nyamsuren.B, Chairman of the board of the “Unity for the Disabled Children and Youth of Mongolia”, and Erkhes.A, Education Officer of the “Mongolian National Federation of the Blind”.

We exchanged our views on the joint solution for the following issues that people with disabilities facing. These includes:

• Adding subtitles and audio to newly produced films /adding additional explanations for the blind and visual impairment through words and sounds/

• Increasing the lighting of cinema halls, providing special spaces for wheelchair users, making seat numbers illuminated,

• Opening up the possibility of wheelchair users to move on the outside and inside stages of cinemas, etc., pressing issues discussed.
